What exactly is included in the assessment?

The assessment covers 7 cognitive domains: Reading the Game (tactical understanding), Making the Call (decision-making), Seeing the Whole Pitch (spatial awareness), Your Voice on the Pitch (leadership and communication), Head in the Game (mental resilience), Speed of Body and Brain (processing speed), and How You Grow (growth mindset and coachability). 62 questions in total, with age-adaptive language from U11 through to senior. Coaches also complete a 10-item parallel observation checklist for each player.

How long does the assessment take?

For players, the self-assessment takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Younger players (U11–U13) typically finish in 12–15 minutes due to shorter question formats. The coach observation supplement takes around 8–10 minutes per player rated. We recommend scheduling assessments before or after a session, or as a standalone activity at the start of a season.

Can players lie or game the assessment?

The assessment uses scenario-based questions alongside Likert-scale items, which makes straightforward gaming difficult. More importantly, the coach observation supplement provides an independent data point — and our discrepancy detection algorithm flags significant differences between how a player rates themselves and how their coach rates them. These discrepancies are themselves informative: they reveal self-perception gaps that are directly useful for development conversations.

What age groups is this designed for?

The platform is designed to work from U11 through to international/senior level. The assessment automatically detects age from date of birth and adapts the language accordingly: simple, concrete language for U11–U13; standard football language for U14–U16; professional and technical phrasing for U17 and above. The underlying cognitive domains remain consistent across age groups, enabling longitudinal tracking as players develop through your academy.

Is the data stored securely? What about data protection?

All player data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We comply with GDPR and relevant data protection legislation. Player data is never shared with third parties or used for marketing. Clubs retain ownership of their squad's data. For players under 13, we require parental/guardian consent to be managed by the club. Our full data protection policy is available on request.

Can we upgrade from Academy to Elite mid-season?

Yes. You can upgrade from Academy to Elite at any point during the season. The price difference is pro-rated across your remaining subscription period. All existing player data — sessions, assessments, KPIs — migrates automatically. Contact us at intelligence@evolutionbda.com and we'll handle the transition within 24 hours.
